Legal Email Footer
A standardized block of legally required company information appended to outgoing email, typically including company name, registered address, registration number, and jurisdiction-specific notices.
What is Legal Email Footer?
A legal email footer is the block of legally required company information appended to email signatures in jurisdictions where commercial email must disclose certain entity details. The exact required content varies by country. In the UK under the Companies Act 2006, limited companies must include the company name, registered number, registered office address, and place of registration. In Germany under the Telemediengesetz, the Impressum requires the legal entity, address, contact, and trade register details. In Italy and France, similar requirements apply. The footer is distinct from a confidentiality disclaimer (which is a legal claim about the message itself) and from a marketing signature (which contains brand and CTA content). For multinational organizations, the legal footer is typically configured per region, so an employee in the UK office automatically receives the UK-aligned footer while an employee in the German office receives the Impressum-aligned footer.
